Summary on Grant Application Form |
The research programme will involve the fabrication of novel microstructures that will offer enhanced ionic conductivity and mechanical properties for high temperature electrolyte for use in fuel cell applications. The properties will be developed by generation of core shell grains to form the microstructures of the electrolyte with the core phase being utilised to enhance mechanical properties and the shell phase to enhance the ionic conductivity. Electrical, mechanical and microstructural characterisation will be employed to optimise and elucidate the underlying science. Modelling of the active mechanisms will be undertaken in order to compare the results with the computer predictions and to enable more efficient use of resources.
