Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed work will examine the electronic activation of organic substrates using catalysts. The reversible catalytic addition of a nucleophile to an organic substrate will temporarily alter the electronic properties of the substrate. Whilst the substrate has been transiently activated, it will undergo reaction, and then the activating catalyst will disconnect. The main purpose of the proposed work is to design a new scientific principle, and hence the reaction types under investigation are not the main focus. Nevertheless, the proposal will consider synthetically useful transformations, including epoxidation, cyclopropanation and hydrogenation.
