Summary on Grant Application Form |
The asymmetric hetero-Diels-Alder reactions of 2-alkenyloxazolines will be investigated. This class of hetero-diene is particularly attractive in view of their ready availability from inexpensive alpha-aminoacids. This methodology will provide a rapid entry into the synthesis of highly functionalised piperidines. These compounds are interesting in their own right, and also as building blocks for the synthesis of larger chiral molecules of biological interest. Diels-Alder reaction of 2-alkenyloxazolines with hetero-dienophiles such as isocyanates promises a general approach to non-natural alpha- and beta-aminoacids.
