Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project aims to develop a new technique for the rapid, automated manufacture of low-cost composite forming tools for the aerospace industry, using a thermal spraying process to produce a metal shell which is subsequently supported to produce a tool. The process has the potential to reduce the toolings cost and lead-times by at least 60%The tooling will be designed and evaluated for a range of composite forming processes including vacuum bagging, RTM and compression moulding.
