Summary on Grant Application Form |
We have demonstrated the utility of producing supersaturated systems for the optimised delivery of topical drugs. However, a rational description of process parameters in this area has not been investigated. We wish to determine how process parameters such as formulation content, mixing and temperature affect the ability to form and control supersaturated states in semi solids. In certain circumstances we need to prevent the crystallisation process since this will result in reduced product performance with time. This may be achieved by appropriate additives such as anti nucleant polymers. No structure activity relationships are available for these. We have also demonstrated that this type of additive can be used in controlled crystallisation. We wish to examine their role in the controlled production of colloidal dispersions within semi solid matrices. This will also be affected by physical parameters such as temperature and mixing.
