Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of the project is to understand how the crosslinking of ECM proteins by tissue transglutaminase (tTgase) is important an matrix deposition and assembly at the surface of biomaterial, using a novel approach we will measure cell surface related crosslinking of ECM proteins by tTgase in establishing cell tyes and relate this to the ability of these cells to colonise a range of novel bioartificial, biodegradable and bioactive polymer systems. Out ultimate aim is to optimise the biomaterials whereby the availability of ECM proteins to tTgase crosslinking can be carefully controlled with a view to promoting cell behavioral patterns that are conductive to would healing and tissue regeneration. The project will bring together the unique expertise of two reserch groups and may lead to the design of new biomatieralis for vascular and bne replacement.
