Summary on Grant Application Form
The key problem in achieving a workable ink-jet technology for SFF of ceramics is the manufacture of a high solid loading ink with fluid properties compatible with droplet formation. The VF will develop alcohol based inks of electroceramics (PZT) and metal conductor inks (Pt and Pd/Ag) in order to fabricate sensor and actuator devices. In addition he will identify wax compositions compatible with high temperature ink-jet depositions of Zr02 and Ni-alloys. The burn-out characteristics of these waxes will be characterised as part of a sintering cycle. The VF will also organise a workshop on SFF techniques for the UK research community.
