Summary on Grant Application Form |
The objective of the programme is the synthesis of asymmetrically functionalised polymers. A longer term goal is the validation and use of such polymers for the preparation of homochiral compound libraries and for use in scale up of certain asymmetric processes. A consortium of an academic group and 2 SME high tech chemical companies has been formed to run the programme. It is anticipated that the products and technology originating from the programme will be commercially viable. The consortium consists of ourselves, Oxford Diversity a company specialising in combinatorial chemistry and Polymer Laboratories, a company specialising in high value polymers. It is intended that we will synthesise novel monomers containing chiral auxiliaries and Polymer Labs will polymerise the materials to afford new polymers. We will validate the performance of the new materials in term of their use in asymmetric synthesis and transfer the methodology developed to Oxford Diversity who will prepare compound libraries based on the solid phase polymer approach. It is clear that the programme requires a high degree of partnership and collaboration to solve the technical problems presented in this project.
