Summary on Grant Application Form |
Self-assembling structures in solutions of associating polymers, polymeric surfactants, peptides and polyelectrolytes will be studies theoretically (mainly analytically) using a number of unifying theoretical approaches. We will investigate the basic general molecular mechanisms of formation of liquid crystalline, microdomain and reversible gel structures related to formulation of novel functional materials. Analysis will be based on the modern self- consistent field approaches and on recent advanced theories for structures in block-copolymers. Another goal of the project is to study linear and non-linear mechanical and theological properties of reversible networks formed by peptide tapes, which are uniquely connected to the molecular self-assembly properties. the theoretical research will be tested against experimental studies of peptide tapes solutions, polyelectrolyte solutions and gels, and poly-surfactant micelles, already underway in Leeds.
