Summary on Grant Application Form
User scientists will use the facility for investigations in atomic and molecular physics, high harmonic studies and plasma physics, and VUV generation for spectroscopy. Key areas include:1. Dynamics of molecules in intense fields including pulse processing and coherent superposition experiments to study and control molecular dissociation.1. Femtosecond optical pulse interactions with positive ions prepared by ion-beam techniques.2. Femtosecond multiphoton pulse interactions with vibrationally excited molecules.3. Femtosecond laser mass spectrometry (FLMS) and the investigation of its application to the study of large molecules of interest to biotechnology.4. Intense femtosecond laser interactions with solids and plasma physics. Time-resolved experiments on the evolution of dense plasmas.5. Studies of high harmonic generation (HHG) in gases and at surfaces. These HHG studies will benefit the provision of a fs VUV facility.
