Summary on Grant Application Form
The project seeks to design, analyse and evaluate a new type of neuro-fuzzy control algorithms that avoids on-line optimisation, and compensates for both measured and unmeasured disturbances. The research is motivated by the need to develop an adaptive control strategy which is suitable for low cost embedded applications, since most existing schemes require extensive memory and processing power. A computationally simple recursive fuzzy identification algorithm will be developed, analysed, and incorporated into an adaptive feed-foward control architecure. The viability of the controller for practical applications will be assessed by using it to control temperature in liquid nitrogen and liquid helium cryostats. Potential benefits will include the development of a control scheme which is simple to commission, and can be used on a wide rande of non-linear and uncertain systems. The work could also enhance the understanding of the convergence properties of fuzzy identification algorithms, as well as the stabilty limitts of adaptive fuzzy control schemes based on inverse modelling.
