Summary on Grant Application Form
A new uniform asymptotic technique for the approximation of oscillating integrals is proposed. It can be applied to integrands containing products of special functions to which the standard asymptotic techniques do not apply. The original integral is expressed as multi-dimensional integral with a rapidly varying phase. This phase is then analysed using nonlinear singularity theory techniques - this is a crucial step in the new approach. Our new method is applicable to a wide variety of problems involving the propagation of high frequency waves.
