Summary on Grant Application Form |
Miniature micro-machined optical pressure sensors based upon a reflective Fabry Perot/Fizeau cavity interferometer will be researched and developed. The movement of the pressure sensitive part of the sensor will be measured using low coherence interferometry. Sensors will be designed to operate over different pressure ranges, however the maximum displacement in the sensors must be the same i.e. independent of pressure, in order that they can all be interrogated by the interface module. The interface module will be based on a scanning interferometer by the interface module. The interface module will be based on a scanning interferometer with a path imbalance similar to that of the sensors, and is used to determine the absolute optical path length of the sensors. In order to simultaneously interrogate a large number of sensors a multiplexing network will be researched which will include both spatial and time division multiplexing.
