Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed research comprises four main tasks, of which (a) and (c) are the subject of a linked proposal by Keele University.(a) to investigate the effect of soluble polymeric additives on the bulk properties of ceramic dispersions (rheology, aggregation, etc);(b) to develop methods to detect and measure microstructural defects in ceramic green bodies and to apply such methods in-line to aid process control, optimization and increase yield;(c) to model ceramic forming processes especially the interaction between the physical characteristics of the feedstock and the characteristics of the process equipment;(d) to define the likely impact on profitability/competitiveness of new process techniques in the ceramic industry and to assist in the business processes involved in technology transfer.
