Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project will establish perceptual principles for the design of 3D interactive displays that support accurate perception of spatial intervals and motion through 3D structure. This will entail the construction of experimental environments, where spatio-temperal frequency is manipulated, to obtain human psychophysical estimates of vector motion. It will also entail the translation of these findings to the active control of motion through a prototypical 3D interaction application. The primary focus of the enquiry is the perception of heading, steering and arrival by the observer. The primary outcome is to be a model of the information sufficient for such judgements in prototypical settings and the demonstration of the use of this model in the apriori design of 3D environments for training and data visualisation.
