Summary on Grant Application Form |
It is recognised that the fully linearised theory fails to provide satisfactory results for motions of a fast craft in waves. The present proposal aims to provide a computational tool which includes nonlinear effects on both the body surface and the free surface. The numerical method will be based on an extension of the existing boundary element method being used at UCL for predicting the dynamic stability of a ship. The computer code will be validated by comparing results with analytical solutions and experimental data. It is expected that the developed code will be suitable for routine applications in the industry.
