Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed project will involve fundamental studies of the CBD process for binary and ternary chalcogenides. The project will involve the construction of a solution deposition apparatus at IC which will be used: to study the effect of changing the ligand on the quality of BdS films deposited to develop the deposition of ZnS in a controlled system to develop the deposition of ternary CdZnS and in order to model some of the systems it will be necessary to measure stability constants, eg for hydrazine and zinc and the ternary hydrazine/zinc ammonia system; these measurements will be carried out as necessary films will be characterised in both the early and later stages of growth by a wide range of methods including: scanning electron, microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X ray diffraction and elemental analysis by methods such as SIMS the above measurements will be used to probe the mechanisms of film growth.
