Summary on Grant Application Form |
There is a major class of assembly problems where one or more of the parts to be joined together have to be distorted in some way in order to achieve the desired fit. This work requires the following: model of mismatch of fit, knowledge of the distortion properties of components in the ambient conditions, followed by analytical and experimental work to specify suitable handling mechanisms in the industrial environment, all validated in detail against the particular problem of the attachment of shoe soles.
