Summary on Grant Application Form |
Advanced soft ferrites based on the Mg-Zn, Mn-Zn and Ni-Cu-Zn ferrite systems will be produced and characterised containing varying additives and impurity levels. The interaction between the additives (TiO2, ZrO2, HfO2 and V2O5, Nb2O5, Ta2O5) and impurities (SiO2 and CaO) will be studied microstructurally and related to magnetic performance so that optimum additional levels and raw material impurity levels can be specified for applications as yoke rings, switched mode power supplies and multilayer devices. Conventional ceramic processing and novel citrate gel processing will be used as appropriate for ferrite preparation. Thermochemical modelling and predictions of impurity-additive interactions will be performed and related to the experimental results in an attempt to explain conflicting data reported in the published literature.
