Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project will develop a new generation of power electronic controllers for the hybrid stepping motor in which the complete drive system is optimised. A circuit topology will be developed which will provide a smooth transfer of energy from the a.c. supply to the motor; drawing sinusoidal current from the supply while also controlling the stepping motor to give minimal torque ripple and rapid dynamic capability. The circuit will allow regeneration, not require an isolation transformer and will be cheaper to manufacture than existing stepper motor drives.
