Summary on Grant Application Form |
In CdSe-CdS and CdS-ZnSe hexagonal type-III superlattices electric fields in excess of 10^8 V/m are produced by the Intrinsic Stark effect. It has been shown that the band gap of these superlattices can be optically tuned by excitation power. A comprehensive set of CdS-CdSe samples has been grown by DRA, Malvern and studied optically at Strathclyde. It is proposed that the fast dynamics of these samples be studied in the picosecond spectrometry laboratory at the Klinghirn AG, Institut fur Angewandte Physik in the University of Karlsruhe. It should be possible to complete a wide range of experiments in a relatively short time span. Secondly, it is proposed that an advanced theoretical model be developed in collaboration with Karlsruhe group. This model will be used to analysis our present results and the time resolved data to be obtained. Finally, we propose to start a collaborative project, in which Karlsruhe will grown samples, in their recently developed hybrid HWE/MBE growth system, which Strathclyde will study optically, in an attempt to improved the material and optical properties of II-VI intrinsic Stark superlattices.
