This six-month project is to research the PIP within the UK aerospace industry to identify the status and best practice and thus recommend a longer term research agenda. The proposal is complementary to those from Cranfield/Warwick and De Montfort Universities. A key feature of this research project is the focus on the human issues inherent in all PIP. Behavioural aspects to be assessed include:- adaptability to the methodologies adopted by a company- acceptability of common or differing procedures within project teams and other groups involved in collaborative or linked activities- various management strategies and styles- inter- and intra-group communications- data- and knowledge-base management and utilisationIt is recognised that successful concept development [and the flow-down through the design, manufacture and operational phases of the life cycle, together with the effect on the supply chain] are essential for reductions in time to market and whole-life costs and, therefore, will provide the context for this research programme.
