This research draws upon the concepts and insights from recent developments in business, management and organisational theory in order to assess their potential for improving project performance within the construction industry. The aim of the research is to examine the potential for cultural integration within the project management team offered by the adoption of a more proactive stance by the client in the project management process and by the use of innovative management techniques that encourage partnership amongst project participants. The ultimate aim is to encourage clients to adopt procedures which reflect more constructive relationships within the project team and thus enable them to secure improved time, cost and quality performance on their projects. The project offers a collaborative alliance between practitioners and academic researchers, reflecting the strong emphasis on the direct application of the findings to industry. The research is case study based, and involves the use of qualitative research methods.
