Summary on Grant Application Form |
This research project aim to provide practising engineers with methods to select and scale real stron-motion records for use in dynamic analysis and seismic design. An important component of the research will be a reveiw of the current global stron-motion databank and an examination of the feasibilty of selecting real records for different design scenarios in terms of characteristics of the earthquake source, the travel path and the site. The 2nd and parallel focus of the work is the development of probablistic methods for defining hazard-consistent earthquake scenarios. This will lead to the developmeny of procedures for defining well-constrained critieria - with different levels of constraint for different level of available hazard data - for the selection and scaling of real accelograms to provide relable hazard consistent design motions.
