Summary on Grant Application Form
Electrochromatography (EC) is a means of achieving high resolution in high performance liquid chromatography by using electro-osmotic flow (EOF) to drive the mobile phase flow. The proposed research is aimed at greatly expanding the application areas of EC in analysis by devising new procedures through: gaining understanding of the influence of the electrical double layer on EOF; modifying silica and other silica stationary phase surfaces; defining the role of column particle porosity in EC; preparing columns for EC packed with very small diameter particles; developing procedures for gradient elution in EC; and developing and investigating the mechanisms of chiral separation by EC.
