Summary on Grant Application Form |
Carbohydrates participate in a wide variety of biological interactions and recognition processes indeed there is increasing evidence to suggest that in many cases carbohydrates are the primary markers for cell recognition. We have made significant advances towards the concise preparation of oligosaccharides through our work on new protecting groups and new strategies for efficient glycoside coupling. We now wish to use these oligosaccharides to study the molecular basis of their interactions with proteins. Progress towards carbohydrate drugs will be aided by a more detailed understanding of the nature of protein carbohydrate interactions at the atomic level.
