Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of the project is to research approaches to accessing and controlling data within the Product Introduction Process (PIP) through the specification, prototyping and integration of a set of product structures, product viewpoints and their relationships. The project proposes that data required during PIP may be accessed and controlled more easily than at present if it is stored with respect to product structures. Such structures may include the physical structure (how the product goes together) and the requirements structure (what the product should do based on the customer requirements). A data modelling approach will be used to establish the product structures and their relationships. The research programme has four main stages: testing existing data models of product structures; revising data models; determining when and where data is used, created and accessed in the PIP; and combining the new data models with the business model thus enabling demonstration.
