Summary on Grant Application Form
The Melville Laboratory provides support for an interdisciplinary approach to polymer science in the University of Cambridge and has as its focus aspects of innovative polymer synthesis. The laboratory has a good range of polymer characterisation equipment, but lacks facilities for accurate molar mass measurement. Several programmes are now seriously in need of regular access to light scattering methods. These include particularly those projects dealing with rigid rod polymers such as the polymer LED synthetic programme and ongoing studies in microblock fluorinated polymers. New projects include polymers for transistors, the study of a range of polymerisations in sc C02 , polymers based on inositols as rigid molecular scaffolds, synthesis of dendritic structures and topics in polymer molecular recognition.
