Summary on Grant Application Form |
This research proposal concerns the experimental, mathematical and numerical modelling of structured liquids and soft solids. It is proposed to develop scientifically acceptable procedures for the theological characterisation of such systems including the development of an appropriate model for the slip processes that often occur. The utility of both the constitutive and slip models will be assessed by modelling both numerically and experimentally selected complex flow situations. Contraction and expansion flows as well as flow over holes are considered to be appropriate candidates for study, given their relevance to many industrial processes.Key Words: Processing, soft solids, non-Newtonian, Pastes, Slurries, Gels, Suspensions.
