Summary on Grant Application Form
RTM is a candidate process for the manufacture of high-performance composite components. High-performance requires a high fibre fraction and controlled fibre architecture. This places a premium on the achievement of adequate permeability and the ability to predict the final fibre geometry when fabrics are draped into complex mould cavities. This project will address the dual objectives of prediction of the ultimate fibre geometry and the measurement of permeability of candidate fabrics in both normal and distorted (draped) states. The final objective is to provide data and analytical, numerical and empirical models to facilitate the manufacture of cost and performance effective components for the aerospace and premium engineering markets. The entire work will be carried out with close practical collaboration between the academic and industrial partners.
