Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose to use the inherent chirality of tricarbonyliron lactone complexes to devise new ways to generate remote stereocentres. The rigidity of the tether, in addition to the steric bulk of the tricarbonyliron moiety has the effect of directing the addition of nucleophiles to one face of a carbonyl group positioned in the vicinity of the allyl system. We propose to investigate asymmetric alkylation of silyl enol ethers. Mukaiyama aldol reactions, 1, 4-additions to enones, generation of quaternary centres and stereoselective ring synthesis.
