Summary on Grant Application Form |
Optical networking techniques using ATM virtual paths as a transport layer instead of SDE in conjunction with an optical WDM layer, have been proposed recently. This proposal seeks to study successors to such approaches where packet switching makes use of practical, simplified WDM optical routing and switching. Such networks will support many more nodes than present optical transport layers. Studies will take place on node design, control, and routing, provision of both connectionless and connection orientated services and physical node performance, including device development and demonstrator assembly.
