Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed work aims at demonstrating the feasibility of undertaking a full multi-passage viscous flutter analysis of a representative blade-disc geometry, complete with all required engineering features. Existing prediction tools are limited by the available computing power but, in principle, it is possible to enhance them using novel modelling techniques so that the overall computational requirement is reduced by at least an order of magnitude. Such a study will be the first of its kind and, if successful, it will be instrumental in leading the way for not only flutter analyses but also for other aerodynamic investigations of quasi-symmetric structures.
