The work will involve both experimental measurements in environmental chambers and CFD simulations of the air and containment movements. Two environmental chambers to be equipped with displacement ventilation systems, one with chilled ceiling, will be used for the experiments. A tracer gas will be mixed with the supply air and the concentration at the breathing zone of the mannequin will be an indication of the perceived air quality. CFD will be used both as a visualisation system and to extend the range of parameters which will be investigated experimentally.The results from the experiments and CFD simulations will provide information on the relationship between the global distribution of the air quality in the room and that which will be perceived by an occupant. This will be determined for various air distribution parameters pertaining to displacement ventilation systems with and without chilled ceilings.
