Summary on Grant Application Form |
Novel hyperbranched poly(siloxysilane)-liquid crystal elastomers in which the LC phase acts as the crosslink will be synthesised and their elastomeric properties assessed. Chiral mesogenic moities will also be attached to the siloxy silane cores as these display unique optical properties. Their potential application as strain gauges will be examined. To contrast with the hyperbranched material crown ether-liquid crystal dendrimers will be prepared and their use as ion sponges and ion conducting media will be studied.
