Summary on Grant Application Form |
We have established that organometallic polarising groups can impart substantial NLO properties on alkynes. This research will prepare more extensive conjugated systems with organometallic polarising groups. The NLO properties will be measured. In the first stage of the work, comparison of structures with diyne, triyne and tetrayne links will indicate whether long dipoles promote charge averaging between the ends of the dipole, and smaller NLO effects. Subsequent investigations will determine the effect of variation of the nature of the electron-donating organometallic group.
