Summary on Grant Application Form |
To construct and evaluate an interactive case memory system to act as knowledge mediators between a complex system based around one domain of knowledge and a group of users from a different knowledge domain. To focus our research we shall develop and evaluate ICMs to mediate between a suite of tools for simulating electrical power supply networks based on engineering models andstrategic planners from the electricity supply industry whose knowledge is focussed on financial, managerial and customer service issues. Initially we shall develop two knowledge models capturing the domain expertise of the strategic planners and power supply network simulation experts. Using the overlap between these two models we shall develop a domain specific interface for use in constructing low fidelity simulations. Around this interface we shall develop ICMs to assist strategic planners in developing high fidelity simulations based on tools developed by our industrial collaborators. Participatory design and co-operative evaluation techniques will be sued to support an iterative development process.
