Summary on Grant Application Form
The project addresses improvements in measurement of soot by laser induced incandescence (LII) imaging and seeks to compare detailed measurements with model predictions. A novel type of partially remixed sooting flame will be investigated where the soot is formed in a rich premixed flame and is consumed by the products of a lean premixed flame in a counterflowing configuration. The aim of the work is to improve detailed modelling of LII including an improved treatment of optical characterisitics of the soot particles and to compare these results with an extension of a model which has been developed by R J Hall and co-workers at Yale University.
