Summary on Grant Application Form |
Heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of three configurations of a 15 row x 5 column steam condenser with condensing surfaces treated by plasma assisted CVD with an organo-silicon polymer are to be tested at vacuum pressures and with varying approach air contend, steam velocity and cooling water temperatures. The data is to be correlated and pressure drop. Finally, together with a condenser manufacturer and an electric utility company, these correlations are to be incorporated in computer software presently used to design filmwise condensers. The technology promises a breakthrough in the performance of utility steam condensers with consequent reduction in the cost of generating electricity.
