Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project involves the creation of a new range of inspection strategies based on significant advances in air-coupled technology and inspection techniques, and on the use of novel, permanently attached ultrasonic sensors to produce smart structures. The core research aspects of the project are sensor design, wave propagation modelling and the evaluation of resultant inspection methods. The outcome of the project will be a set of testing systems which will offer new possibilities of ultrasonic inspection in a wide range of industries. The hardware delivered will be new air coupled arrays, piezo-film sensors and flexible composite sensors. The value of this hardware will be greatly enhanced by the definition of testing strategies for both remote, air coupled testing and inspection via the smart structure approach.
