Summary on Grant Application Form |
Previous work by the applicants has established a correlation between mechanical properties and electrical tree growth in insulating resins. Specifically, tensile strain accelerates, and compressive strain inhibits, tree growth. The possibility is to be investigated of taking advantage of the tree inhibiting properties of compressive strain by pre-stressing polyester and epoxy resins in a manner not dissimilar from that employed in pre stressed concrete, i.e., by the introduction of fibres in tension during the curing process.Key Words: Electrical Engineering, Materials, Composites, Polymers, Mechanical Stress, Electrical Treeing, Insulation
