Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal is concerned with the development of a computational approach for modelling the behavious of steel framed building structures under fire conditions using structural models which are sufficiently complete to cover all main actions which take place. The work will be based on a proven approach which has been used successfully for the 3-dimensional analysis of skeletal structures with simple plate elements. This will be extended to include orthotropic non-linear temperature-dependent concrete properties with due allowance for cracking and crushing. The analytical developments will be validated against test results from the experimental programme at Cardington. It will be used to examine different structural arrangements, particularly in relation to slab details. The work will make an important contribution of new design approaches for steel framed buildings.Key Words: Building, Civil Engineering, Design, Steel Structures, Fire, Slabs, Concrete, Finite Element Method
