Summary on Grant Application Form |
In this proposal it is intended to use the high energy pressure waves generated by an underwater plasma (arc) in a specially designed sealed reactor vessel, to reduce microbiological activity, destroy yeast cultures/proteins, dissolved toxic liquids, separating heavy metals and also to remove small suspended solid particles in order tot allow process industries to recirculate/reuse their process water. The intention is to investigate the design and optimisation of a model water purification system, which could be scaled up for commercial or industrial processes. The unit is anticipated to be of compact physical size requiring around 500J of energy per litre of liquid treated, will not require regular cleaning and will have low maintenance requirements as a result of the absence of moving parts and fixed light sources.
