Summary on Grant Application Form |
The application of laser ignition to gas turbine combustion is studied including practical testing on gas turbine sector rigs and the fundamentals of laser ignition. The aim of the research is to identify and quantify key parameters concerned with the application of laser ignition to sea level ignition and high altitude relight in realistic two-phase fuel air mixtures. Fundamental studies will include detailed studies of plasma formation in exploding kerosene droplets and nascent flame formation/growth under controlled conditions of stoichiometry and turbulence in a fan stirred low/high pressure bomb.
