Summary on Grant Application Form
Mass transfer from a gas stream to a falling liquid film is strongly influenced by the wavy structure of the interface, which is itself a function of liquid properties. The relationship between liquid properties, interface structure and interfacial shear is not well understood. Experimental study of the effect of liquid viscosity and surface tension with cocurrent downward gas flow will be combined with measurements of pressure drop to determine interfacial shear. This data will be used to develop models for use in the design of falling film reactors with particular reference to detergent manufacture.
