Summary on Grant Application Form
The implementation of the conventional techniques for soft maximum likelihood trellis decoding of the long length codes gives rise to enormous trellis complexity. It is intended for the proposed research programme to develop and implement two decoding techniques based on: (i) Two-stage trellis decoding technique employing Shannon product of trellises. (ii0 Novel double-ended trellis decoder. which have been derived at Lancaster Communications Research Centre recently for the decoding of long length codes. The main emphasis will be based on ensuring that the proposed schemes are practically realisable using DSP processors and the performance of these codes will be compared with the performance achievable under conventional decoding algorithms.
