The general aim is to address research issues arising from the application of neural computing to time-varying data in the context of an industrial application. Specifically, it is proposed to study Local Model Networks, for online modelling of nonlinear dynamic plant, where a global model is formed from a set of locally valid sub-models. The next step will be to extend the Internal Model Control (IMC) structure to include such models. New research results will be tested and validated on a laboratory pilot rig before application to an industrial chemical plant in collaboration with DuPont (UK) Ltd at Maydown.
