Summary on Grant Application Form |
Tooling represent the longest and costliest step in introducing new shapes in the aerospace industry. Laminated object manufacture is a known technique for rapidly building shapes directly from CAD designs. This proposal is aimed at extending the process to large scale forming tools and tools capable of withstanding superplastic forming temperatures (>900oC). The novelty is in the scale, the materials, the production route, and the edge forming techniques.
