Object technology is an increasingly widespread software technology. As with all emerging technologies, there is a requirement for more rigorous and scientific underpinning of the associated concepts and techniques. The project seeks to increase our understanding of object technology by the technique of formally defining object technology, an approach that has proved to be successful with earlier technologies, making them more effective. The project has relevance to all areas of the UK economy that involve software development using object technology, a very large an rapidly growing sector. It is particularly relevant to developers of methods and tools based on object technology. A key property of the project is that it will formalise concepts and techniques in current use, largely using currently available theory. The project will concentrate on Syntropy, a modern method of developing object systems that embodies the key concepts and techniques, and will collaborate with a principal designer of Syntropy. The theory used is the well-developed object calculus.
