Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project will investigate theoretically and practically how the availability of precision timing information can be used to enhance the performance of distributed systems such as mobile communications. Specifically, it will consider.(I) the design of a simplke GPS - based timing source,(II) its application to frame, symbol and carrier synchronisation and,(III) its application to systems based on composite CDNA/TDMA (where the code phases are locked to a timing reference). The gains due to this new approach will be determined for the items above as a function of precision and DSP facilities will be utilised to demonstrate practically such gains.
